Anxiety Therapy in New York & New Jersey

I specialize in treating high functioning anxiety, social anxiety, and panic disorders. Much of how I think about anxiety comes from noticing what tends to trigger it and what actually helps people move through it over time. Over the past twenty years as a therapist, I have learned that anxiety often shows up in situations that test your abilities or stretch your personal values. Sometimes anxiety comes out of nowhere. Other times, it is persistent and free floating.

Let’s focus on how to truly get unstuck from anxiety…

Think about a time you felt mild anxiety, maybe while placing an order at Starbucks or applying for a new job. Social situations or pressing deadlines can bring on moderate to high anxiety, often accompanied by negative self talk and fear. Anxiety can show up for many reasons and sometimes last throughout the day. It can create real barriers to your goals, and trying to manage it alone can feel overwhelming.

While anxiety presents with a wide range of symptoms, I'm a strong advocate for trying not to fixate on symptoms alone, and instead I focus on helping you get unstuck from chronic anxiety.

Anxiety can be a signal that something may need your attention.

Sometimes anxiety is a symptom of something deeper. I see it not just as a disorder but as a signal that something may need your attention, care, or change. Perhaps, anxiety is a waning sign that burnout is on the horizon. Or anxiety may be a signal that a past trauma has yet to be healed.

I make sure we explore the patterns behind your anxiety so that you have more options based in awareness and choice. I utilize various therapy modalities, including psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), to ensure anxiety is properly addressed.

Our work can allow you to…

  • I bring a calm and authentic presence at the heart of everything I do. When anxiety runs high, I hold space for you to sit with your experiences, slow down, share your share your thoughts. These simple techniques allow you to disrupt overwhelm and anxiety.

  • Chronic stress can lead to anxiety. When stress builds up over time, it can actually change how your brain works, especially the parts that help you manage emotions. I help you identify your stress response, gain insight about your stress triggers, and learn how to navigate stress effectively. Through our work, you can see firsthand what works and how it helps.

  • Your root causes reveal the why—why your anxiety shows up in certain situations, why it feels out of proportion, and why it can be hard to shift. I make sure you have the information and support you need to understand the root causes. When you begin to see patterns clearly, it gives you more options about how to respond and handle anxiety.

  • A strong emotional system leads to resilience. I support and guide you to identify your emotional strengths and build confidence. I often use thought work based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) to replace harsh thoughts with more neutral, even balanced ones. When you face life’s ups and downs, you begin to handle it more easily.

  • I model compassion during our work. At the same time, I gently challenge the patterns that keep you stuck. Together, we explore mindfulness and self-care practices to build awareness and kindness. As you begin to understand where your anxiety comes from, you’re less likely to blame yourself.

I listen carefully, help you slow down, and make sense of what has been overwhelming. You don’t have to struggle on your own, we can work together to help you get a handle on your anxiety. If you are ready to approach your anxiety with more clarity and support, I am here to help. We can start whenever you are ready.
